Summit Air
Summit Air is a fictional airline application and design system I created using figma variables and styles.
Planning
To start this project off I had to decide where I wanted my small boutique airline to be based. I decided on Bozeman Montana so I could focus on the national parks in the area. From there I needed to create a realistic flight table that would repeat daily, and start sketching out ideas for the physical browser.
Wireframes
Ideation
When trying to land on a visual style for my airline I wanted to include the rustic feel for national parks with something more relaxing and sleek. I settled on using oranges and blues to play homage to adventure, yet still having a more modern professional feel.
Figma Variables
Through this project I got to explore Figma variables for the first time. My goal was to make the variables work for me, rather than feeling constrained by this new tool. I succeed, not only was I able to use variables to move a users flight selection along, I was able to to create a calendar that was self sufficient within on calendar pop up.
Final Designs
These are some screenshots from the final screens of the project. I made use of my white space pushed the main content to the left or right in order to add visual interest and let the user easily find information. I mostly used simple shape and color changed to differentiate state and progress position.
Design System
Another aspect of this project was to create a comprehensive design system for our airlines. Named Elevate, my design system laid out branding, spacing, accessibility, naming guidelines and more.
As seen I created naming tokens to ensure whoever used my design system could easily find and understand information. The button section shows one of the various component guidelines used to create new site and applications within the system.
